Attend the American Century Championship in Tahoe

Let RnR put you on the doorstep to the biggest show in celebrity golf, July 10-14 at Edgewood

We’ve all heard of the Red Carpet, where Hollywood glitterati roam before the eyes of the world. Well, each summer South Tahoe rolls out a carpet of its own with a decidedly green hue as Edgewood Tahoe plays host to the biggest show in celebrity golf.

The world-renowned golf course is home to the American Century Championship, which plays out again on July 10-14, 2024, featuring more than 80 of the brightest stars in sports and entertainment. Past participants include Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry (2023 winner), NFL stars Josh Allen, Travis Kelce, Patrick Mahomes, and actors Ray Romano and Don Cheadle.

Now entering its 35th year, the American Century Championship is a made-for-TV event owned and broadcast by NBC Sports. The premier celebrity golf tournament also raises funds for local Tahoe and national charities.

Since 1990, the tournament has donated 100 percent of its net proceeds to worthy causes. Previous beneficiaries include the Wounded Warrior Project, the Equal Justice Initiative, the Center for Disaster Philanthropy COVID-19 Response Fund, the Notah Begay III (NB3) Foundation COVID-19 Response Fund, Uniform Firefighters Association Scholarship Fund, Fallen Patriot Fund, Lake Tahoe Fire Relief Fund (Angora fire), Autism Speaks, American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, United Negro College Fund, Boys & Girls Club and the Stowers Institute for Medical Research.

The event also gives back to the local community through grants. Following the tournament, the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority and the Tahoe Douglas Visitors Authority submit grant applications for area nonprofits to benefit from the donations.

RnR can put you on the doorstep of this renowned tournament, where fans can mingle with their idols at Tahoe's only lakefront golf resort.

Tickets for the 2024 event will go on sale online beginning April 1. The Pro-Am rounds on Wednesday and Thursday cost $40 each, with Friday-Sunday tickets set at $50. Active Duty, Reservists, National Guard, Military Retirees, and Veterans receive one complimentary ticket and one complimentary guest ticket for either Wednesday or Thursday.

South Lake Tahoe Golf Courses

There is a lot to love about golf in South Tahoe, with glorious panoramas at the top of the list. Once the snow clears, four main courses come to life, teeming with golfers who love the high elevation, which adds roughly 10 percent distance to each drive off the tee. Here is a recap of our top courses:

Edgewood at Tahoe

Brought to life by George Fazio in 1968 — and later renovated by his nephew, world-renowned golf architect Tom Fazio — Edgewood tests the mettle of golfers from around the globe. Rated as one of Golf Digest’s top public golf courses in the country, Edgewood provides golfers with one-of-kind challenges, natural marvels, and endless memories.

Bijou Municipal Golf Course

For those looking for value, this 9-hole course is an excellent deal. South Tahoe’s oldest golf course lowers the price even more for seniors and kids. Opened each year around the first of May, it’s a walking course but easily navigable and pull carts are available. Playing Bijou is something like playing in a wide, verdant meadow with views of the Kit Carson Range and Heavenly Mountain Resort’s famous Gun Barrel ski run in the background.

Tahoe Paradise Golf Course

Located along U.S. Highway 50, this 18-hole course challenges the best golfers but is priced for a wide range of players. Many of the fairways are framed by majestic pines and the Sierra, and Mt. Tallac is visible from a number of holes. Rates vary by time of day, but you can score a tee time during twilight for around $40. It’s a full-service course, offering a pro shop and snack bar.

Lake Tahoe Golf Course

This 18-hole beauty is set in a wide, lush meadow along the Truckee River and sits in the shadow of Mt. Tallac, the signature peak of the South shore. A challenging course with long fairways (course length is 6,741 feet), it offers a full-service pro shop, lessons, club rentals, and one can walk or ride the course. Tee times must be booked in advance.
